What is Hypnotherapy
… and how can it help you make changes quickly?
Hypnosis has been used for many years as a way of allowing people to make positive changes to their lives. At Old Town Hypnotherapy, modern clinically proven therapeutic techniques are combined with the state of trance to help people make significant positive changes within relatively short periods of time.
How Does Hypnotherapy Work?
Working with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we look at what you want to achieve or change in your life rather than on the problem(s) that prompted you to seek change. The approach focuses on the present and future and not on the past and many clients are relieved to discover that they are not expected to talk in detail about their problems or relive distressing memories. At Old Town Hypnotherapy we ask you to consider your preferred future, for instance, “what would be better if the problem had improved?” “What would have changed?” This enables your possible solutions to become more apparent and worked towards.
The hypnosis itself, which just feels as if you are nicely relaxed, allows you to access your subconscious mind and make changes at that subconscious level. At all times you are completely in control, your mind will only accept what it agrees with and the changes you make feel very natural because they have come from you.
“Research shows that there is more scientific evidence for hypnotherapy than any other complementary therapy…. by using hypnosis, people can perform prodigious feats of will power and self healing”(Health Education Authority)
*”When I had my first session, I was tired (and looked it), not sleeping well and very anxious. I was negative about everything and, quite literally, going around in circles, instead of coping with the issues that were causing the problems in the first place.
I left my first session feeling elated and felt I could regain control of my life, so much so, that I instantly recommended a friend. After two further sessions, I felt better than I had done in a long time, looked better and started to deal with the problems that were causing me the stress, effectively and efficiently. After just 6 sessions I felt I was a 10 on the happiness scale! No longer tired, I was sleeping again, and the stresses and strains had melted away. I cannot recommend hypnotherapy enough, it has literally changed my life.” Drew Carlton, Old Town, Swindon*

What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a clinically proven technique that you can practice in a form of guided meditation which will help your mind to become calm and focused.
As humans we are often “not present” in our own lives. We often fail to notice the good things about our lives, fail to hear what our bodies are telling us, or poison ourselves with toxic self criticism.
Human minds are easily distracted, habitually examining past events and trying to anticipate the future. Becoming more aware of our thoughts, feelings and sensations may not sound like an obviously helpful thing to do, however learning to do this in a way that suspends judgement and self-criticism can have an incredibly positive impact on our lives.
Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to, and seeing clearly whatever is happening in our lives. It will not eliminate life’s pressures, but it can help us respond to them in a calmer manner that benefits our heart, head, and body. It helps us recognise and step away from habitual, often unconscious emotional and physiological reactions to everyday events. It provides us with a scientifically researched approach to cultivating clarity, insight, and understanding. Practicing mindfulness allows us to be fully present in our life and work, and improve our quality of life.
At Old Town Hypnotherapy we often combine techniques such as Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Mindfulness and Neuro Linguistic Programming where most appropriate to help you make the changes you want to.
My first session with Emma was a consultation during which she explained how we often work off of the primitive part of the brain as opposed to the positive, more logical part. I left feeling confident and looking forward to my first trance session the following week. After my second session I left Emma and actually walked to my car smiling, which I NEVER do as I’d always believed this when I looked my worse, and I kept smiling to myself on the drive home. I was so overwhelmed with feelings that I had to text Emma that night to thank her!! Since then I’ve seen Emma regularly and my life has changed dramatically, I’ve been out, gone up to the bar alone (which is a huge achievement for me) and am beginning to just ‘be myself’ around people for the first time in years. I feel so calm and happy and haven’t slept as well as I have been lately for years. I really feel as if I’ve got my life back at last.
*I’m more confident and content and really can’t thank Emma enough. I would highly recommend her to anyone, and I have done. What she does is amazing!” Mel, Swindon.*
