What does it mean to be hypnotised?
Being hypnotised is very similar to daydreaming, you are just in a very relaxed state of mind and body. We call this state a ‘trance’. You already do this many times a day, when you’re driving, watching TV, listening to music, jogging etc. You are fully in control at all times during the session.
Can you make me do anything I don’t want to do?
Absolutely not. It will enable people to achieve things they want to achieve, but contrary to TV and film fiction, a hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything you don’t want to.
How will I feel?
Some people are surprised at how ‘normal’ they feel during a trance and fully aware of everything around them. There is no right or wrong way to be in a trance and different people experience different things, the only thing everyone has in common is that they feel wonderfully relaxed and it is lovely to experience.
How do you Hypnotise me?
We always start by talking you through a relaxation process which relaxes both your body and mind. Then once you are relaxed, we just talk to you about positive reinforcement in areas of your life you have identified you need help with and ‘read you a story’. The story will be a metaphor which your subconscious mind will make sense of where it is applicable
Is it suitable for Children?
Absolutely! At Old Town Hypnotherapy in Swindon I see many children, from the age of 10, and I’m always amazed at how children just ‘get it’ and it usually takes far less sessions than an adult for a child to resolve their issues. Teenagers also respond extremely well to hypnotherapy.
What if it brings up things I don’t want to talk about?
Quite simply it wont. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is not a talking therapy, we do not discuss problems and even at the initial consultation we don’t need to know details. Instead we focus on your preferred future and encourage you to look at how life would be when you have made the changes you want to.
