This is a personal blog that I would like to share with you, read it, I will do a random act of kindness for you.

People often ask me “how are you always so positive and happy?’  Well the truth is I’m not, for a start being happy and positive is something you have to actively practice, of course it becomes easy and natural, but if you’ve done any of our courses or read the blogs you will have seen the message regularly ‘practice’, but also I’m human and sometimes life gets overwhelming, just like everyone.

The last couple of weeks life has felt a bit like ‘swimming through treacle’ everything I was trying to do wasn’t working out as I wanted it to, my life seemed like the ‘Law of Attraction’ had morphed into ‘Law of Rejection’ and it was getting me down.

When your life is about helping others to change their life for the better and recover from anxiety and depression, when you don’t seem to be able do it for yourself it is really really frustrating.

But that all changed on Monday with a random act of kindness.

It was about 5pm and I was sitting working on my laptop, getting distracted by facebook (told you – human!!) when I saw a post from a lady I know who was in hospital with a broken ankle, she had fallen over at home.   I replied to her post, probably half joking at the time ‘is it visiting now?’ to which she replied ‘I think so’.  With that I made the decision, without thinking about it, to go and see her and so I did, right in that moment.  Well, this simple act of putting myself out for someone else started a whole interesting chain reaction.

The lady I went to see, Penny, told me about a book she had read recently that had changed her attitude to life called ‘The Game of Life and How to Play it’ (see book review).  I needed some inspiration and it sounded interesting so I bought it in audio book and started listening.  Much of the content very much resonated with me and I understood a couple of things I needed to change, but it didn’t end there.

On Wednesday evening another lady I know, a hypnotherapist colleague of mine, reached out over social media (yep, on Facebook again) she was struggling as well.  We had a quick chat over facebook and arranged a coaching session on Skype the next morning which I offered to do free for her.  It turned out I might as well have been talking to a mirror – she was describing pretty much the same circumstances that I had created for myself and again the simple act of putting myself out for someone else without expecting anything in return gave me more back than I felt I had given and what’s more, it might lead to us collaborating on something in the future (too early to say yet, but it would be exciting).

As I sit here now, having reached Friday I felt a million times better than I did on Monday morning (and that’s not because the weekend is coming) I just feel sorted out and back to my content and happy status quo and I know that it is due to the the chain reactions of the week started by a random act of kindness I did I Monday afternoon without thinking.  I received so much more than I gave.

So here’s my challenge and complete random act of kindness for you:

You do a random act of kindness for someone else and you can choose any one of the products on the website (except Goodbye Anxiety, Adios Depression) and I will give it to you absolutely free.

All you have to do is;

  1.  Do a random act of kindness for someone without expecting anything in return
  2.  Let me know by posting a comment in the blog describing what you did and how you felt afterwards or what happened for you as a consequence.
  3.  Also in your comments on the post, let me know the product you would like and I will send it to you free.

I will follow up on this blog by explaining why things things are so important and the science of what they actually do in our brain – but for now, lets just spread some love and kindness.
